Garment Care
Handwashing
Where the label says a garment can be hand washed, it's best that you use a mild detergent such as Ecover at a temperature of 30 degrees or less. If the garment is silk or wool, it's best to use a detergent specially intended for silk and wool such as Sonett olive washing liquid for wool and silk which is very mild, fragrance-free and biodegradable or Natural House organic soap flakes.
Machine washing
Where the label says a garment can be machine washed, it's best to use a mild detergent such as Ecover at a temperature of 30 degrees. If the garment is silk or wool, we recommend you use a detergent specially intended for silk and wool such as Sonett olive washing liquid for wool and silk which is very mild, fragrance-free and biodegradable.
Tumble drying is not recommended unless the garment care label specifies it.
Dry cleaning
Fabric manufacturers often recommend dry cleaning to cover themselves which is why some garments are dry clean only. Some fabrics will shrink, fade or change shape if washed.
I've looked thoroughly into the environmental issues surrounding dry cleaning to find out what is generally agreed to be the greenest form of dry cleaning. The answer seems to be GreenEarth (carbon dioxide) cleaning which is not only much less damaging to the environment and health than conventional types of dry cleaning, but also gives better cleaning results.
